Mastering Cybersecurity: Your Comprehensive Guide to the Security Analyst Roadmap 2024 🚀
SECURITY ANALYST ROADMAP 2024.
1. Set up & enhance your LinkedIn profile. Recruiters are constantly seeking new talent to hire. You want to make sure that your profile is as professional & optimized as possible.
2. Choose your career path (GRC, Analyst, Engineer, Cloud Security, Application Security, etc.) SOC analyst tends to be the main entry-level position people shoot for, but there are other entry-level security jobs as well, some of which aren’t as competitive. These would give you a better chance for an entry-level position. Also, are you looking to go Red Team 🟥 or Blue Team 🟦 ?
3. Once you’ve figured out your cybersecurity career path (In this case, Analyst), I would then look up job descriptions for that role, and see what universal skills hiring managers are looking for in that particular role.

THEORETICAL TRAINING
4. Earn CompTIA Network+ ➡️ Coursera Google Cybersecurity Certificate ➡️ Security+ ➡️ CySA+.
These certs will give you a good foundation of understanding of how networks operate and how to secure them through various mechanisms. You’ll learn about basic attacks & other important terminology. Unless you’re shooting for Helpdesk, I’d steer away from A+, as I found this cert to be bloated & outdated when it comes to specific technologies that won’t be necessary in the security lane.

HANDS-ON TRAINING
5. Earn the Security Blue Team Level 1 & CyberDefenders certifications. Both offer hands-on training that covers various security domains. Their certification tests are fully hands-on, so these certifications will truly put what you’ve learned to the test!

6. Conduct a home project or lab for each cert that demonstrates your acquired knowledge & showcase them on your resume & LinkedIn. Don’t just tell…show!
7. Fix your resume & NETWORK! “It’s not what you know, but who you know. And what you know is what keeps you there.”
As for boot camps, do your research. Some are great, & others will not offer you the value their high price tag promises. If you have the money to spend, I’d just look into enrolling in the Cybersecurity & Information Assurance Bachelor’s program at Western Governors University.
